Short Term Rental compliance checklists, by jurisdiction

Free and printable. Every item on these lists traces to the jurisdiction's own published program pages or application materials, checked November 1, 2026. Where a requirement is not in the published materials, the checklist says to check with the city instead of guessing. Rules change; the jurisdiction is always the final word.

Denver

The complete list: license, primary residence, insurance, lodger's tax, annual renewal, and the ongoing duties most hosts miss.

Aspen and Pitkin County

Two programs, one valley: city permit types and caps on one side, the county license and night limits on the other.

Summit County

Basin caps, the responsible agent rule, and the good neighbor duties for unincorporated county properties.

Breckenridge

Zone caps, the accommodation unit license, BOLT, and the town and state taxes stacked on every stay.

Steamboat Springs

Three license types, overlay zones, the ADU prohibition, and the local responsible party rule.

Boulder

Primary residence only, the annual affidavit that keeps the license alive, and the four year license term.

Colorado Springs

Two permit tiers, the 500 foot separation rule, $500,000 of liability insurance, and the one year permit.

The universal items: every jurisdiction on this page requires its own license or permit before you advertise. HOA and condo rules sit on top of all of it, are not in any public dataset, and can ban short term rentals even where the city allows them. Check them separately, in writing, before you buy or list.
